From an Auckland City Councillor:

We have passed a by law that enables us to decline a permit for a parade etc that is considered offensive.

Council now has to have a special Council meeting to decline the permit. As the by law change was passed with a clear majority it is fairly certain Council will pass a resolution to decline the permit.

It will then be up to the Police to stop it and up hold our by laws. In the past with the hero parade the Police have made a decision it is not offensive and done nothing about it. One problem has been the objections come in after the event.

May I suggest you get as many like minded people as yourself to write to the District Commander, Auckland Police and make it clear you find it offensive etc. It is preferable it is not a circular type letter or email but that would better than nothing

Please make sure you copy a letter to the Mayor so we know how many letters the police receive and can have supportive material to help hold them accountable. It would be great if there were over a couple of thousand letters so Police can not say it is not offensive. It would be preferable for a family or couple to write individual letters rather than one letter representing several people. Numbers do help.

If a person actually lives, works or regularly visits Auckland CBD it would be good to make that point as they will probably be considered as having a greater interest than the rest of Auckland or NZ although any one in NZ has a right to claim it is offensive to have this type of behavior in a public place let alone the main street of NZ's biggest City. People out of Auckland can of course just use an email address.
